Pediatric surgeons at University of Chicago Medical center recently reconstructed the undersized bladder of a 10-year-old girl using a Da Vinci Robotic surgery System. The patient suffered from symptoms that you would expect from a small bladder but also spasms making life difficult. Instead of a 6" incision required for traditional surgery techniques, the robot used only five dime-sized holes. The bladder was rebuilt to more than double the original volume. Tiny incisions also reduce pain, incidence of infection, and the need for strong pain medication.
