AIST develops Robust hands for Robots...!

Researchers at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) have developed human-like hands for Robots..,

They have developed four-fingered hands specially for humanoid robots. These hands are also much better than the previous Robot hands that were too bulky and the fingers were too weak.

But these hands are having four fingers and are about the size of a human hand, they measure 18 cm from wrist to the fingertip and 8.4 cm across the palm.

The fingers have three joints in them and the thumb has five joints which make them almost similar to the human hand. The fingers are also powerful enough and can exert a force of 15 Newtons...

The hand is equipped with mechanism that makes the hand more flexible and has a much smoother finger operation.

AIST is still working on the hand and plans to make the mechanism and the software of the hand much better...
