These machines have already shown their caliber to conquer the land, though we have still not unleashed the chains allowing them to do so in the real sense, and now they are ready to flex their muscles underwater, but with a purpose.
An entire fleet of robots is ready to sieve the entire Monterey Bay in California. Oceanographers would observe the enigmatic ocean via this autonomous fleet of robots. The program, called Adaptive Sampling and Prediction (ASAP), aims to get a better picture of the world down there in advance to track and protect ocean life and help in military operations.
The fleet, comprising sensor equipped Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and gliders, would collect samples, including temperature, salinity and other variables, for further study and surveillance by scientists in a virtual control room.
