The RoboCup has a new champion this year. The 2006 Robocup Soccer concluded in Bremen, Germany, with an all-Australian final, in which the University of Newcastle’s NUBots beat the University of New South Wales’ rUNSWift team 7-3.
The NUBots emerged as true champions winning all previous seven tournaments and scoring 64 goals to nil. Around 24 teams comprising four-legged robotic dogs participated in the unique competition. Germany’s University of Dortmund team Microsoft Hellhounds clenched the third place.
Overall, Germany stood first winning 11 of the 33 robot soccer categories, China was judged second with 9 category titles in its kitty and Japan came third with 6 wins.
The RoboCup 2007 will take place in the United States in Atlanta.
