Giving a fillip to the Star War saga, droids made by MIT undergrads are finally making their presence at the ISS. Developed in collaboration with NASA and DoD, the first prototype of the droid was tested at NASA’s KC-135 reduced gravity aircraft and is now exploring the realms of the space station.
The little droids will act like big satellites collecting information and doing experiments in space, eliminating the launch of larger and costly satellites. NASA is planning to launch a huge swarm of little droids in space to carry out their own designated missions. These clusters of satellites, packed with sensors, thrusters, communications and microprocessors, will be controlled by special software.
