SubjuGator won the first prize in the competition in a national competition of student-built robotic submarines. The students at the University of Florida designed it to search out the underwater sound-generating device in a murky pond. SubjuGator out performed the other finalists with its lightweight (30-pound).

The Florida students built their own electronics and managed to fit in the electronics into a small shell to keep the size and weight to a minimum. Powered by lithium polymer batteries the five thrusters of SubjuGator provide better directional control. Where the current underwater robots require a cable, the remotely controlled prototype has the ability to give support in underwater conditions that are too dangerous for human divers.
